Die Freie Presse was a German language newspaper with an aim to supplant all other German weekly newspaper published in Ontario. Its prospectus was to become a new German newspaper at the heart of the German community in Canada. Die Freie Presse was an eight-page paper with six columns per page. The content included weekly reviews of foreign and North American news, local news, articles on miscellaneous topics, and advertisements. Die Freie Presse lasted for only two years from 1886 to 1888. During those two years, the newspaper changed editors as well as publishers a number of times.
