Description
Nordwestern is a weekly German language newspaper started by German Consul in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1889. The newspaper suspended publication from Jan 26, 1919 to Jan 6, 1920 due to the anti-foreign language provisions of Order-in-Council in 1918 and the effects of General Strike. Nordwestern resumed publication in German since 1920 under F. Dojacek's National Press Ltd. The newspaper branched out into several regional editions after WWII: Quebec (Montrealer Zeitung, 1954); Ontario (1959); British Columbia (1961); Alberta (1966). Nordwestern merged with Manitoba Courier in January 1970.
