Project description
The Department of Political Science announces a vacant position for a researcher in the project Climate action in a state of crisis: How Swedish collaborative climate change initiatives manage to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic, funded by Formas. The successful applicant will examine how selected climate initiatives led by the government, businesses and civil society, respond to the current crisis, mobilize support and find ways to navigate through the pandemic. The successful applicant will collaborate with other researchers and be in close contact with an ongoing Formas project on climate action in the post-Paris policy landscape. For more information about the project “Action for Climate Transformation in Sweden” (ACTS): http://act-sweden.se.

The researcher will run a survey in conjunction with qualitative interviews with experts from three types of climate initiatives: the business-oriented Haga Initiative, the government-initiated Fossil Free Sweden, and the social movement Fridays for Future. The project will investigate their response to the crisis, focusing on their goals, arguments and strategies. The project will contribute to emerging policy debates like the Swedish Climate Policy Council’s plan to evaluate the effects of the Corona crisis on Sweden’s progress towards climate neutrality by 2045.

Main responsibilities
The main responsibility for the researcher is to conduct this research project in collaboration with other project participants and the ACTS project. Research tasks will involve data collection, analysis, and dissemination of results through policy-relevant outlets and scholarly journals. The successful candidate will be part of a research group on Environmental Politics, Policy and Learning (EPPLE) at the Department of Political Science, Stockholm University. The position involves 20 percent teaching.

Qualification requirements
Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Previous knowledge on Swedish climate politics is a merit. Additional merits include capacity to work in a cross-disciplinary team of researchers and to communicate research findings to wider audiences beyond academia.

Special attention will be given to candiates who attained a Degree of Doctor or have acquired the equivalent expertise no more than three years before the end of the application period.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time employment (80 percent research and 20 percent teaching) for 12 months, with the possibility of extension. Start date 2021-01-15 or as per agreement.
