cultures of energy iX, may 27-28

Please join us for Cultures of Energy iX: New Directions in Energy Humanities! On May 27-28, 2021, the Center for Environmental Studies hosts Rice’s 9th Cultures of Energy symposium, marking a decade of conversations about energy from the point of view of humanists, artists, and social scientists.

This year we’re featuring the voices of emerging scholars in sessions organized on: Envisioning a Warming World, Emergent Ethnographies of Energy, and Energy Justice.

We’ll also hold a plenary roundtable with scholars who have helped establish the field, a book event, and a roundtable on publishing for broader publics to mark the launch of our center’s new publication Correspondences.

Join us and our excellent colleagues from near and far: Jason Hauser, Megan A. Black, Judith Ellen Brunton, Jacob Darwin Hamblin, Caleb Wellum, Addie Hopes, Dipesh Chakrabarty, Nandita Badami, Marwa Koheji, Zeynep Oğuz, Stephanie LeMenager, Karen Pinkus, Imre Szeman, Myles Lennon, Alana West, Jéssica Malinalli Coyotecatl Contreras, Nikki Luke.
