NEW PUBLICATIONS ON DEGROWTH

FROM THE DEGROWTH WEBPORTAL:

Dear readers,

As multiple waves of the COVID-19 pandemic keep impacting everyday life globally; as social foundations are shaken to the core and institutions of power show their fragility, we are called – now more than ever – to put forward sensible alternatives to business-as-usual.

Four books came out these past couple of months, a clear testament to the relevance and timeliness of the degrowth proposals. “Exploring Degrowth: A Critical Guide” is a new introduction to the movement – by Vincent Liegey and Anitra Nelson – presenting degrowth as a compelling and realistic project.

In “The Case for Degrowth”, Giorgos Kallis, Susan Paulson, Giacomo D’Alisa, Federico Demaria articulate a vision of wellbeing within planetary limits, focussing on the politics that can make it real, based on the defense and development of the commons.

“Degrowth in movement(s): Exploring Pathways for Transformation” by Nina Treu, Matthias Schmelzer, Corinna Burkhart is a pluriversal approach to the movement, displaying a mosaic of emancipatory alternatives where systemic change is already underway.

And last but not least, Jason Hickel released “Less Is More: How Degrowth Will Save the World”, where he blasts ecomodernist hopes for green gorwth with indisputable facts.

The world is changing in front of our eyes and the degrowth networks are busy advocating for a post-pandemic world where people and planet are worth more than profit.
