Description
Residential Schools is a podcast series created by Historica Canada and released in March 2020. The series is hosted by Shaneen Robinson-Desjarlais. Part of a larger awareness campaign created by Historica Canada and funded by the Government, the podcast series aims to commemorate the history and legacy of residential schools, and honour the stories of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Survivors, their families, and communities.

The Residential Schools podcast series is composed of three episodes. The first episode, "First Nations Experiences" describes the effects of residential schools on First Nations peoples and looks specifically at the Gordon’s Indian Residential School (in Saskatchewan, and the last residential to close its doors in 1996). The second episode, "Métis Experiences", describes the complex and nuanced experiences of Métis students within the residential schools system and features various Métis Survivors who recount their experiences with the system. Episode 3, "Inuit Experiences", talks about Grollier Hall and Stringer Hall, two residential schools that were opened in Inuvik even after the government was recommended to close all residential schools in the late 1940s. The episode explains why the government ignored those recommendations, and what that meant for institutionalized students. Survivors of these schools five first-hand accounts of their experiences in Northern residential schools.
