Founded in 1983, the Aboriginal Multi-Media Society of Alberta (AMMSA) is a news and communications society serving the news and information needs of Indigenous people across Canada. It was incorporated under the Alberta Societies Act in 1983 and has since then been an example for other aboriginal communications societies. As an independent society, AMMSA is committed to facilitating the exchange of information reflecting Aboriginal culture to a growing and diverse audience. It aims to provide objective, mature and balanced coverage of news, information and entertainment relevant to Indigenous issues and peoples while maintaining profound respect for the values, principles and traditions of Indigenous peoples. AMMSA's motto is "Inform. Impact. Inspire... is what we do. Independent and Indigenous... is who we are."

The Aboriginal Multi-Media Society of Alberta's impact extends beyond Alberta as it is home to WindspeakerAlberta SweetgrassRaven's Eye (BC), Ontario BirchbarkSaskatchewan SageBuffalo Spirit and CFWE radio.
