The Native People was Canada's first native weekly newspaper. It was published by the Alberta Native Communications Society. It aimed to attract the broadest Indigenous audience possible, but the paper leaned towards Albertan matters. While most of its articles appeared in English, the newspaper also holds articles in Cree. By 1979, the newspaper had a weekly circulation of more than 10.000.
