Echo Germanica was first published in 1990. The first issue was 10,000 copies strong and was distributed free of charge mostly in German delicatessen stores in and around Toronto and a few stores in Hamilton. After its first year of publication, it received three top awards: two for excellence in journalistic development (one from the Federal Government and one from the Canadian Ethnic Journalists), one for excellence in journalism. In 2000, Echo Germanica celebrated its 10th anniversary and had its first issue of Echo Germanica published online at echoworld.com.
