If the wheel of fortune were in mother's hands

My mother would weave my life together again

And the times gone past would start again.

Look at what happened to my heart because of that beauty

Will she ever know what happened to my heart because of her?

What does the hunter know about the pain of the gazelle?

Only the gazelle knows what happened to her heart.

Dar olami be vafo kase khurram nest

In this deceiving world, no one is joyful

In mankind, there is no happiness or delight

Those who do not suffer in this time of ours

either they are not human or they do not belong to this world.

The world, like a beauty, is always dear to the heart

Torment is always dear to the ones in love

Only by chance does the sword fall on a miserable man's head

The sword always falls on the proud man's head

Madvali Hasanov Dasti du'o

Ghazal by Saydo Nasafi (d. 1710 ca.)

Dil chu az poy fitad dasti du'o megardad

Rohrav pir shavad rohnamo megardad

Rostiro nabuvad hej zavole ba jahon

Sarv agar khushk shavad boz aso megardad

Oshnoi ba javonon notavon kard ba zur

Saydo ka'bai dil khonai mayusi nest

Hojjati khalq zi in khona ravo megardad

When the heart falls, it turns into a prayer

The one who grows old and tired of walking begins to show the way.

Nothing in the world is ever truly destroyed

If the cypress dries up, as a stick it comes to life again.

One cannot rejuvenate by force

The arrow soon departs from the bow.

Saydo (says that) the heart is not the house of distress

It is the house of rescue for the people.
