King Sunny Ade, juju star (b. 1946). Juju is a Nigerian version of highlife, incorporating local percussion instruments, performed primarily by Yoruba.

Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, fuji star (b. 1948). Fuji is a popular music developed by Yoruban Muslims out of ajisari, apala and were music (formerly used to wake the faithful for their pre-dawn meal in Ramadan), with influence also from highlife and other popular music forms.

Both performers achieved widespread fame in the 1980s, though outside Nigeria fuji has not enjoyed juju's popularity as "world music".
