When working from off-campus, you will need to tweak permanent jstor links a bit, in order to access via the proxy server.

Just substitute the hostname

http://www.jstor.org.login.ezproxy.library.ualberta.ca

for the hostname

http://links.jstor.org

at the beginning of the URL

for example, instead of

http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=0094-0496%28198505%2912%3A2%3C245%3AHATSOL%3E2.0.CO%3B2-2 (this works fine on-campus; from off-campus you'll be asked to buy the article)

use

http://www.jstor.org.login.ezproxy.library.ualberta.ca/sici?sici=0094-0496%28198505%2912%3A2%3C245%3AHATSOL%3E2.0.CO%3B2-2

When you first access the proxy server, you'll have to log in using your usual UofA username and password. After that, you won't have to log in again for the duration of your session.
