Weeks 7,8: Phonogram to cassette to 'Net: new media, new media economies, new media musics (20th century tarab and popular Arab music). (Nov 2, 4)

Week 9: Music at the margins: ethnic minorities, women, border zones, alt-Arab (Nov 9, 11 - no class)

Week 10: Music and politics: hegemony, and resistance (Nov 16, 18; we'll also include some Week 8 & 9 material here)

Week 11: Music, dance, gender & sexuality (Nov 23, 25)

Week 12: Globalization: diasporic and world music (Nov 30: globalization; Dec 2: student presentations - 30 min each)

Weeks 13-14: Student presentations (10 minutes each) & wrap-up (Dec 7: last class; presentations - 30 min each)
