modes

  1. maqam: Nahawand D
  2. iqa`: karatshi (2 variants: one heavier for the chorus; the other lighter, for verses)

form

  1. open with org solo (and bass accompaniment; others can also provide drone, first on A, then D)
  2. karatshi 4x percussion only
  1. instrumental melody starts after 4 full bars of karatshi
  2. chorus first repeat: Samira solo; second repeat: everyone

Repeat the following 3x:

  1. instrumental section
  2. verse (change to karatshi variant, fewer percussionists, lower volume)
  3. chorus (2 repeats)

Then add a final chorus (2 repeats) to conclude. Don't slow down at the very end; just hold the final notes. Percussionists: be sure to end on the final bar, minus the last "dum" (which would serve as upbeat to the following bar).

notes

  1. percussionists: don't overaccentuate dum. Drop out most percussion during Amal's solo, and switch to lighter variant of karatshi.
  2. singers: be careful with rhythm! Listen a lot to develop the rhythmic feel
  3. everyone: listen to each other!
  4. instruments: when singers are singing -- esp. for solo -- lower volume. Fill in lawazim. Bring up volume for instrumental sections.
