Description

For the midterm project, create a max patch that can be presented and/or performed in public. This can be an instrument, an interactive composition, an installation, or a combination of things. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece, but it should represent something that you are interested in as an artist, and that presents an interesting approach to making sound.

Stipulations

Although the project is open in terms of what kind of music/sound piece you want to create, please ensure that the following guidelines are followed:

  • All sounds should be your own: no third party samples
  • All objects should be those from the standard Max/MSP library, or those you have created yourself. No third party objects unless approved beforehand
  • If you are creating a solo work, it should be no longer than 5 minutes in total length.
  • Your project must be self-contained, and you must supply any hardware items you wish to integrate unless otherwise arranged in advance

Presentation Format

Your project should be presented in one of the following formats:

  • A solo performance
  • An interactive installation with demo
  • A group performance (this must be specified beforehand by all parties involved)
  • A performance within a group improvisation (which I will facilitate for those interested in working in this manner)
  • Other formats will need to be cleared ahead of time

Deliverables

In addition to the public presentation on the 14th, all files associated with the project should be turned in by 12 noon via email. This should include your patches and any other associated files.
