World Music Sampler 2011
The 2011 World Music Sampler program - 8 pm on Saturday November 26:
1) West African Music Ensemble, directed by Robert Kpogo, featuring Ghanaian guitar master Koo Nimo
2) Indian Music Ensemble, directed by Sharmila Mathur
3) Middle Eastern and North African Music Ensemble, directed by Michael Frishkopf
- Fika kullu ma ara hasan (Arab mashriq) - traditional muwashshah, featuring Jenny Boutros
- Habbaytak (Lebanese) - composed by Ziad Rahbani, lyrics by Joseph Harb. Featuring Rana El Kadi and Reem Skeik
- Al Ghourba (Nubian Egyptian) - composed by Ali Hassan Kuban
- Bote chin (Iranian) - composed by Ali-Akbar Shayda. Featuring Kioumars Poorhaydari
- Da Magri - traditional Kurdish, featuring Hoshyar Waissi
- Habibi Dyali - traditional Moroccan, featuring Samira ElAtia
- Ya Mal al-Sham - traditional Syrian, featuring Tony Abinader
Notes:
- There's no sound check.
- Be at con hall by 7:45 pm. We'll have a green room downstairs with "MENAME" on it (descend via stairs at the right). If you must come late, enter quietly and wait. We'll be on around 9:30, just after a brief 10 min intermission.
- We'll use selective mic'ing to even out dynamics. Vocal soloists should sing directly into mics. If there's no solo, stand back from mic.
- Please wear dark colors with splash of color. Bring music in black folder, in the correct order.
- More Arabic lyrics are on the web (thanks Samira) for those who want them.
- Everyone is responsible for chair/music stand. Percussion behind, vocalists stage left, instruments stage right. Take what you need from backstage.
- We'll move through music quickly, so be prepared.
