This seems very important - even in some popular music influence by western pop music. I am thinking of Youssou NDour and his "egypt" album. A lot of the tracks (if not all) have spiritual subject matter - an emotional connection to the music more than an emotional response maybe.

In the video we watched on the first day of class the singer was performing in front of an audience in Vegas. But they seemed to be "insiders". They knew how to respond to the music. Their emotional response was a big part of participating in and listening to the music - even in the Diasporic community.

Something in Longa Farahfaza seems interesting to me,the name Farahfaza and the general feeling of this piece are exactly matching each other.Farahfaza has the meanig of cheerfulness and joy and the whole spirit of this track is full of happiness and movement which seems to be because of the melodic repetitions.

In the first seconds of listening to Mesk Elil,it sounds similar to french chansons and,the pronounciation of singer makes this idea stronger.
