In this assignment you'll look at a "world music concert" in a broad anthropological sense: as a cultural event. Instead of thinking of the review as focused on the music and musicians from the stage, you should consider the entire event, in its context. Think about the who, what, why, where, when - all in the broadest terms, including the "audience" as well as "performers" and "music" (or "dance"). They're all related - and you can ask "why" of any component - what shaped it?

So, first of all, suppose it's staged at UofA. Why is it here? Who organized and funded the performance, and why? Do you detect any nationalistic interests for instance? What do they perform? Something that's supposed to be "very traditional"? Who got to decide? How does the audience enter in - are they invited to participate in any way? Do they remain very silent? Are some of them familiar with the music, and if so do they react differently? Watch the audience and see. Do they wait to clap at the "right" moment? Do you think this is the way the same music would be received in the "home country"?
