Short welcome and self introductions: GA’s, Graduate Directors (welcome students and talk for 1 minute about their role in the department).
1:05 Grad Advisors: Roles, Responsibilities, and Resources - who to go to for what:
- GA’s are here to answer questions about FGSR recognized milestones, we are the process person; award nominations, LOA’s, extensions, program completion, help guide
- Supervisor/Area Coordinator (academic requirements, annual progress review, ethics & professional development) Contact info and location.
- Graduate Director authorizes activities within the normal trajectory of a student’s program, i.e, leave of absence, program extensions, special accommodations requiring approval from the Dean. Note: roles may vary slightly within each dept.
- FGSR website (Graduate Program Manual - general enrollment info, Calendar basics, key dates and deadlines, tuition/fees, code of student behavior, supervision, program milestones (candidacy, thesis, defenses, committees), language requirements, FGSR Progress Review)
- Ethics requirement: INT D 710 (Master’s) INT D 710/720 (Doctoral) Deadline: fall 2022 for Master’s and winter 2023 for Doctoral
- Professional Development requirement: IPD end of 1st year. PD activities end of 2nd year.
