WENZHOU DIALECT Wenzhou is mainly spoken in the city of Wenzhou, located in the southeast part of Zhejiang Province, more specifically, in downtown Wenzhou, Ruian (city), Yongjia (county), and most of Yueqing (city), Pingyang (county), Wencheng (county), Dongtou (county). It is also spoken in parts of some counties next to those above (see the map below). The current population of speakers is about 7.5 million. The dialect (as Chinese linguists call it) is regarded as a branch of Southern Wu.
