Here, crosses are placed at the head. Natalie Kononenko, the folklorist, has not seen a cross placed anywhere except at the head but was told in Iahotyn that it is proper to place the cross at the feet so that, when the dead arise on Judgment Day, they can more easily grasp the cross (they do not have to reach in back of their heads), pick it up, and go.
