| The funeral of Hanna Petrivna Mateiko. The cross which will stand at the head of the grave is at the front of the procession. It is tied with a rushnyk or ritual towel. Then comes the pevcha; this is a choir of sorts, a group of women who sing religious songs, both in church and at ritual functions such as funerals. If there is no priest, the pevcha alone will conduct the ritual.
