| A view of the Dnipro (Dnieper) River and of the Left Bank of Kyiv. As Kyiv grew, it expanded not only inland from the first settlements on the river banks, but also to the areas across the river. At one point, this area was a separate municipality called Darnytsia. Now it is a subdivision of Kyiv characterized by large, modern apartment buildings.
