| At the dedication of a new building on the outskirts of Kyiv. Modified versions of the rituals for blessing a new building and insuring that its house spirit was properly welcomed were practiced in the Soviet period. At the dedication of a new building, city and other officials gave speeches, as in the photograph here. Various amateur performing groups, such as the one to which Natalie Kononenko belonged, were invited to sing and dance to properly "open" the building.
