This is a mixed village, comprised of indigenous people and people resettled from the Burlivka village in the Chornobyl region. Pictured is Mariia Petrivna Onykienko, DOB 1930. She is originally from the Chornobyl region, born in the village of Ilintsy and married into the village of Burlivka. She tells about life cycle ritual. She does the ritual of the babina kasha, or midwife's porridge at baptism. She does not perform the function of a midwife, because these are not used anymore, but she does bake a kasha which is brought to the baptism. The pot in which the kasha was baked must be broken and the kasha retain its shape. She then becomes baba (grandmother) to the children for whom she performed this ritual.
