| This is a mixed village comprised of indigenous residents and people resettled from the village of Burlivka in the Chornobyl region. Pictured is Kateryna Pavlivna Vashchenko, DOB 1922. She is one of the resettled people from Chornobyl. She was an informant on the life cycle and some of the yearly cycle. She also does babuvannia, which here means that she takes care of sick children and people in general. She will perform incantations over people who are not really ill, but just mildly distressed - to help them feel better. She did one such incantation for me and here is doing one over Natalia Havryliuk, folklorist and member of the Ryl's'kyi Folklore Institute of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.
