| Funeral of Novak, Hryhorii Pylypovych, age 72. The mary or a wooden stand used for carrying the coffin. It is carried by 8 men (in other villages, 6 men carry the mary, which are also called nary; sometimes women carry the mary/nary if the deceased is a woman). The mary have legs so that the coffin can be set down at crossroads for the appropriate prayers, singing of Our Father and lamentation by the relatives. The mary here were very heavily decorated, with rushnyky, kerchiefs. These will become presents for the coffin bearers and the gravediggers. Relatives follow the men with the mary here.
