| The home of Polina Iakivna Latysh and Vasyl' Ivanovych Latysh. In the photo are their three children (left to right) Volodia (Volodymyr), Nadia (Nadezhda), and Halia (Halyna). The folklorist and her hosts are having dinner upon her arrival in the village. The dining room is the Entryway to the house--this provides more space and helps keep the rest of the house reasonably cool in the summer. Note the items of material culture: the type of food on the table and the type of dishes, as well as the partition between the dining area and the storage area, and in the back, the windows and window treatments. All family members were informants; the only one that was not a good source of information (and probably mostly because he was out in the field cutting hay) was Volodia.
