An old unquiet dead towel from the Cherkas'ka oblast collected by Halyna Vasylivna Kapas'. Date of manufacture of the towel is probably at some point during the second World War. The craftswoman of the towel is unknown, although according to the inscription on the towel, it was the sister of the deceased. Such towels are made for those who died violently and before their time, especially those who died unwed, such as soldiers. They were supposed to give such people peace and let their souls rest after death. The towels were not for display. They were made and then stored. Their purpose was not decoration, but the peace of the deceased.
