Ukrainian Traditional Folklore

This web site seeks to present the folklore and ethnography of Ukraine. Folklore is the artistic expression of the most fundamental beliefs of a culture. It articulates ideas about the relationships among people and between humans and the world around them. It is the key to understanding a culture at the grassroots level.
At present, the project focuses on Central Ukraine: Cherkas'ka, Chernihivs'ka, Poltavs'ka, and Kyiivs'ka oblasts.

With our recent re-location to Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA we hope to soon include folklore from Western Ukraine.

We are trying to update the site, but it is a lot of work.
We have two new things:
Preliminary VR Movies from our trip to Ukraine July 2005.
Four village churches and four village houses.

And, something very new - a searchable web site of 150 hours of Ukrainian Language interviews.
