I think it’s great to open an intermediated blog regarding the severe limitations of digital media. Are we already resisting the urge to celebrate “open lines of digital multiplicity”? Still, let’s not get stuck in the rut of determinism. This is leaving an open diary on a coffee shop table. So there does belie a risk in digital sharing, sure. It’s bound to be misinterpreted, scoffed at, taken out of context, insulted; and if it’s praised, is that my sole motivation? Self-presentation is the ultimate lie of character, and it’s difficult for me to see digital multiplicity as anything but the multiplicity generated by mirrors facing one another — just as they do in a closed system, like how Lacan saw the metaphor. So if everyone’s an experimentalist, did the conventions recede so far into the horizon we are unaware of how to cross their threshold? Just asking. MV
