The internet platform titled “Active Citizenship and Direct Democracy” supported by the University of Alberta Kule Institute for Advanced Study (KIAS) seeks to become an outlet for critical discussion and analysis of contemporary social movements in Europe and the world focusing on issues such as workers’ rights, social justice, privatizations, redistribution of wealth, critique of post-socialism and neoliberalism, equality politics and the commons, to mention but a few.

As such we aim to attract scholars, journalists, economists, lawyers, artists and activists alike interested in these new social movements from Ukraine to Bulgaria, from Slovenia to Macedonia, from Spain to Greece, from America to Asia. We hope to give voice to those who have opinions on these topics, to share views and experiences, and to learn more from each other about the fast changing socio-economic landscapes of today’s global society.
