Canadian Consortium on Human Security (CCHS)

In October 2003, the Canadian Consortium on Human Security (CCHS) issued a call for proposals for funding third party human security-related conferences and workshops to be held in 2004 and early 2005. The Consortium received 30 applications for funding from university-level institutions or by research centres based in Canada by the January 16, 2004 deadline.

All applications were reviewed by a national selection committee, chaired by CCHS Co-Director Andrew Mack (UBC). All the applications were reviewed and scored according to criteria laid out in the call for proposals.

The Consortium is pleased to announce that, as on February 16, 2004, five "complementary activities" applications have been awarded CCHS funding. However, the Consortium is withholding announcing two of the awardees until some administrative matters are settled.

The awardees are:

1. W. Andy Knight, University of Alberta, Conference, Children and War: Impact, April 1-3, University of Alberta, Edmonton;

2. Erin Baines, UBC – Liu Institute for Global Issues - UBC, Workshop, Les Femmes aux Mille Bras au Rwanda: A Case Study of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, May 29- 30, 2004; Liu Institute for Global Issues - UBC, Vancouver;

3. Details withheld until further notice;

4. Jackie Kirk, McGill Centre, Workshop, Women and Peace building between India and Pakistan, June 11-12 or 25-26, 2004, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec;

5. Details withheld until further notice.

Two further applications have been short listed as "alternates" should funding for these conferences / workshops not proceed.

The Consortium will feature reports of these events on its website (www.humansecurity.info), and in its quarterly online publication, the Human Security Bulletin (www.humansecuritybulletin.info). Please refer to CCHS’ website for examples of past seminars, workshops and conferences funded by the Consortium.
