The United Nations Children's Fund, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the World Health Organization are pleased to announce the selection of Ms. Amaya Gillespie as Director of the Secretary-General's Study on Violence Against Children. Ms. Gillespie will support Paulo Sergio Pinheiro, the Independent Expert directing the Study for the Secretary-General.

Ms Gillespie, an Australian national, holds a Ph.D. in Adolescent Health promotion, is currently Officer in Charge of the HIV/AIDS Unit at UNICEF's Headquarters. She has worked extensively on education, including girls' education; and in public health and health promotion, with a focus on adolescents. Her experience includes work in East Asia and the Pacific. Ms Gillespie will be based at the office of the Study in Geneva, and is expected to take up her new assignment shortly.
