THE Minister for Local Government, Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere, has called upon the youth in Acholi to work for peace to ensure development in the sub-region, reports Justin Moro.

"This war must come to an end. We must all be involved and act so that we have socio-economic development in Acholi.

"We must be involved individually and collectively in building peace necessary for development," he said.

Kabwegyere, who was opening a four-day youth workshop at Kitgum Council Hall recently, said instability was a disincentive to donors and investors.

"To achieve poverty reduction and cause development, there must be peace. Even a hen cannot lay eggs when there is no peace around it.

The environment must be conducive," he said.

DANIDA, a Danish development agency, funded the workshop, whose theme was Constructive Engagement of Northern Youth for Peace and Socio-Economic Reconstruction.

Sports state minister, Henry Okello Oryem said the Government was doing its best to restore peace and stability.
