An estimated 1,000 children marched for peace through Gulu town on Saturday.
The peace walk started at the district headquarters and finished at Kaunda
Grounds, about half a kilometre away.
Here, the children displayed art pieces and pictures in which they expressed
their hopes for peace in the region.
District leaders and a delegation from Belgium and Holland addressed the
children.
Thirteen-year-old James Oboma, a primary seven pupil of Unifat Primary
School, was the guest of honour.
In a speech he read on behalf of his fellow children, Oboma appealed to
members of Parliament, the army and religious leaders to work together for
peace.
"Our rights have been immensely violated; we want peace so that we as
children can also enjoy our rights," he said.
Speaking on behalf of the district administration, the LC-V deputy chairman,
Mr Ojok Kerubino, said children have been the biggest victims of the
16-year-old conflict in the region.
He said that Belgium is to fund the building of a school for former LRA
abductees in Obiya, 2km outside Gulu town.
Several local NGOs and Art for Peace, an organisation based in Belgium
sponsored the event.
